Green Village Hope Children’s Home (GVHCH) was founded in 2008 in Ipali, Emuhaya, Western Kenya, as a compassionate response to the growing number of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC). In 2017, it was officially registered as a Community-Based Organization (CBO) under the Ministry of Security and Social Services.
GVHCH provides shelter, education, and holistic support to 25 children living at the home, while assisting 13 children from their homes and 20 teenage mothers and widows affected by HIV/AIDS. Widows receive training in income-generating skills, counseling, and ongoing support to rebuild their lives.
The home was founded by Pastor Florence Kuya, a retired local resident deeply aware of the poverty in her community. Using her own resources and donations from her children, she began offering spiritual, emotional, and material support to orphans, teenage mothers, and widows. Her compassion and accessibility have made her a trusted figure for the most vulnerable.
The foundation of GVHCH began when Pastor Florence rescued two children of a hospitalized HIV-positive widow from the streets and cared for them alongside their mother. From this act of kindness, the home grew to shelter more children, with Pastor Florence and her husband serving as foster parents.
Today, GVHCH continues to expand its reach, driven by the vision of providing hope, dignity, and opportunity to orphans, abandoned children, teenage mothers, and widows in the community.
